Motherboard possesses a compelling voice that moves you from awe at the abundant beauty of the natural world and transcendent life moments to a strange fear of how vulnerable our happinesses are, how changeable the world is. And yet, the poet’s voice is sure and strong, negotiating the changing terrain of our lives.
–Ire’ne Lara Silva (judge)
This contemplative collection by Renee Rossi examines motherhood from all the complex and dynamic perspectives that lie beyond common familial connections.
“Mothers resisting or allowing the idiosyncrasies of their children, bereaved daughters remembering the bravery and limitations of their mothers, women fleeing or rebellious or ‘dismembered’ by motherhood, the earth as mother surviving in its large and small ways—versions of motherhood weave a strong but not the only thread in these poems which also meander surefootedly into the realms of metaphysics, medicine, and Eastern philosophy. Rossi’s sweeping intelligence buffs this chapbook-sized collection to a glow, rendering it larger than the sum of its parts.”
–Leslie Ullman, author of The You That All Along Has Housed You
Renée Rossi has published the full-length poetry collection, TRIAGE,
and two chapbooks: Third Worlds, and STILL LIFE, winner of the
Gertrude Press Poetry Prize. Her poems have appeared in Comstock Review, Southwest American Literature, Journal of Medical Humanities, and
Best of the Net Anthology. She recently completed a Master’s
Degree in Ayurveda and teaches integrative medicine courses. A native
of Detroit, she currently divides her time between the Northeast
Kingdom of Vermont and other places that she finds compelling.
